Straight Talk Peer Education

A new project called Straight Talk is being launched which would see youngsters teaching others of a similar age about various Health subjects.

A Peer Education Group is to be set up at various Youth Centres, Schools and NHS and private businesses across Doncaster.

The project is aimed at training young people aged 15-19 years to pass on information about various health issues to other young people.

These Peer Educators choose their training and which issue they want to address and then they deliver numerous workshops around Doncaster based on their chosen subject. For example, substance misuse, heart health, mental health and well being, sexual health and assertiveness, career development skills.

The Peer Educators will develop the skills to deliver their own learning workshops to other young people about drugs, heart health, mental health, sexual health and career development to allow young people to make more informed choices about their lives.

Straight Talk Peer Education will develop the young persons personal, social and educational development and enable them to gain a voice, influence and place in society. The project will also:

  • build self esteem and self confidence
  • develop the ability to manage professional, personal and social relationships
  • Empower them to make informed choices with their lives
  • develop new skills and knowledge
  • consider risk, make reasoned decisions and take control
  • Teaching/Supervisory work experience
  • Anyone interested should contact Leanne on (01709) 328090 or 07500946266 or email Leanne@denabymainforum.co.uk
