Health Trust launches competition aimed at young people.
YOUNG people are being given the chance to dream up a new character for NHS Doncaster’s unique online ‘soap’ DN1 – and win a prize.
DN1 is set locally and aimed at 13 to 19-year-olds to offer health and well-being advice. By logging on to www.dn1.org.uk fans are able to follow dramas in the lives of teenagers who share a house close to Doncaster town centre.
Each illustrated character has their own page with a profile and archives and uses first-person blogs, updated every week, to share their thoughts and feelings.
As different topics are explored in the narrative – such as sexual health, bullying and healthy eating - pages include relevant information, contacts and links. The site also has a general advice and links page.
A pilot scheme, DN1 has been running since last July and has tie-ins on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter. It was commended in the ‘Best Use of New Media Category’ in the prestigious Communicate09 awards recognising excellence in NHS communications and last week won first prize in the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention category at NHS Doncaster’s annual awards ceremony
Ian Carpenter, Assistant Director of Communications and Engagement, said: “This is a chance for young people to get creative and see a character they’ve designed themselves brought to life. A version of the winning character will be introduced to DN1 and its creator will receive a £50 Argos gift card.”
To enter the competition, provide brief details about your character. Tell us his or her name and sum up their personality. Say how they spend their day (are they at school, college or working?) and also what their interests or perhaps concerns are. You could even send an image that you have designed yourself to give us an idea of your concept. Entry is open to anyone aged 25 and under.
Please email your entries to Publications
Or post to Angela Upton, Communications Department, NHS Doncaster, Ten Pound Walk, Doncaster DN4 5DJ, by April 30.
