Think it’s cool to drop gum? Think again!
Doncaster Council is cracking down on grimy gum litter with its new Sin don’t Bin campaign. After cleaning the streets in the town centre to get rid of gross gum litter, Deputy Mayor Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Stuart Exelby, launched the anti-chewing gum campaign to warn people about the punishments they face if they carry on throwing rubbish on the floor.
“Like all instances of littering, chewing gum is a big problem and offenders will face a £75 fixed penalty notice,” said Cllr Exelby.
“We hope this campaign will make people think twice about spitting out or dropping their gum. Disposing of gum responsibly is just a small act for residents individually but if everyone were to do it, it would make a huge difference to Doncaster as a whole.”
You can get specially made gum wrappers which contain a pad of paper from various places across the town centre. When you want to get rid of your gum tear off a piece of paper from the pad, wrap your gum in it and throw it in the bin. Easy! Change your habits or be charged £75!
The Bin don’t Sin operation is part of a national Keep Britain Tidy campaign, designed to stop people dropping gum on our streets. Doncaster Council is one of just 15 local authorities asked to be involved.
As part of the Mayor’s FLAG- Fighting Litter, Abandoned cars and Graffiti- project, everyone in the borough is responsible for making Doncaster a cleaner place to live, work and play. Are you doing your bit?
Remember: don’t be dumb, bin your gum!
