Youth in Charge!

Young people from across the borough have decided who they want as their Youth Councillor to represent their neighbourhoods, views and opinions at key Council decision groups.

The election event held at the Keepmoat Stadium celebrated the Youth Council’s sixth birthday.

Votes were cast in schools across the borough during the week before the elections and announcements of this year’s Youth Councillors were made after the count.

Natalie Lange, newly elected Youth Councillor, said: “I decided to stand for election as I want to get involved in making a real difference in my area. I’m interested in making things better for young people where I live and I can make their opinions heard on the Youth Council.”

Michael Holland, who is standing down after 2 years as a Youth Councillor said: “It’s gone by really quickly and I’ve really enjoyed being on the Youth Council. I’ve put in a lot of work in and I think that I’ve got a lot out of it. I feel that by being a part of the Youth Council you get the chance to get your views and the views of other young people across.

The Youth Council involves young people in decisions made by the Council and the community on issues that affect them. The new Youth Councillors will have the opportunity to learn new skills and contribute to projects which will benefit young people across the borough.
